Digital divide sounds like a huge gap between bookcases and smartphone commuters. But as this post suggests, there are a number of factors at play, most of them predictable, at least as I would see it. But the move to digital content IS increasing rapidly.
Older folks tend to be more home bound and computer oriented. Younger folks with spendable discretionary income form the smartphone cohort.
40 years ago the tricky piece of the monthly budget was the phone bill, with teen-agers racking up huge bills as they consumed hundreds of minutes of talk time. Now we only have to manage data usage for high-bandwidth consuming mobile content like streaming video and music.
