Virtualization versus a private cloud

Cloud Computing with a distinctly British twist.   The suggestion that virtualization and the cloud are somehow synonymous is a stretch however.  We virtualize our data center environment to consolidate and reduce power and platform costs.  We move to the cloud to redistribute costs, security, and maintenance overhead and also take advantage of vendor designed virtualization for common resource sharing.  However, the changes in computing philosophy, data control, and scalability require deliberate and careful planning in order to be successful.
