Apple to Recall iPhone 5s Due to Battery Problem

Apple will replace a limited number of 5s phones due to a manufacturing problem that involves batteries that don't function as expected.

Apparently users will be contacted - somehow - for replacements.  The process is a mystery at this point.

And I'm not Apple bashing here.  This is the kind of announcement that can be misused or blown way out of proporation.  Apple has sold more than 9 million 5s since their release last month.  As yet there is no estimate of the number of defective phones, but I suspect that it will fall within normal quality metrics in the final analysis.
