USA Today's Gannett offers to buy Tribiune Publishing

And now you're wondering, "what does this traditional publishing deal have to do with the hugeness of the cloud?"

Consider the erosion of print journalism in the past 10-15 years.  This deal would make the third recent change of hands for The San Diego Union Tribune and the second for the Los Angeles Times.  And SoCal print readers probably recall that it was not too long ago that San Diego had the Union Tribune with morning and evening editions as well as a morning edition of The Los Angeles Times.  But that was then and this is now.

The continuing re-organization and re-alignment of print providers demonstrates the grip that digital media and online advertising now have on content, especially in the USA.  And those changes have a dramatic effect on shaping public opinion and eroding the respect that print journalism and its "editorial approach" used to get.  Social media now buffets public opinion daily like a beach ball in the grandstands at a major league baseball game.
